About Larry, our lead counsel

Larry Economos practices trial and appellate litigation, criminal and civil, state and federal, including medical malpractice. complex civil litigaiton, and criminal defense. He has over 28 years of experience in successfully representing criminal and civil clients. He maintains law offices in Greenville and Cary, North Carolina.

Larry has briefed various matters in the state and federal appellate courts, and has argued cases in the North Carolina Supreme Court and United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He has prepared and filed briefs in a broad range of complex matters, including issues and cases involving federal white collar criminal loss and restitution; health care fraud; federal preemption of state law; commercial casualty and business loss; Fifth and Sixth Amendment Constitutional rights; Fourteenth Amendment and State Due Process rights; divorce and equitable distribution issues; federal tobacco marketing quota termination and Tobacco Transition Payment Program (TTPP) payments issues; and professional malpractice matters.

Larry is a former member of the North Carolina Indigent appeals roster representing indigent criminal defendants in appeals before the North Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of North Carolina, and has represented criminal clients in appeals in felony drug crimes, drug trafficking in marijuna, cocaine, and heroin, embezzlement, larceny, armed robbery, gun crimes, counterfeiting, and habitual felon status. Larry has won numerous criminal appeals.

Larry has also won numerous contested civil matters in the appellate courts, including family law equitable distribution cases, a HIPAA related medical records case that allowed for civil damages against a negligent doctor, a Fifth Amendment constitutional issue, civil procedure issue, valuation principals of a military governmental pension, and successfully obtained Writs of Certiorari and Supersedeas that directly overturned State Superior Court Judgments and Orders in contested civil litigation matters.


Larry currently serves as general civil litigation counsel forR&E General Contracting, Inc., Fantis Foods, Inc., North American Supermarket Brokerage, LLC, and Unique Trading Company, Inc., a commercial construction firm located in Charlotte, North Carolina, and commerical food manufacturing and distribution companies doing business in North Carolina, and an importing company located in Cary, North Carolina. This has provided Larry with over 20 years of construction and commercial law experience.

Due to his successful representation of doctor in Pitt County who had been federally indicted with felony charges including over 500 counts of health care fraud, all of which three counts were dismissed, Mr. Economos has been invited to author numerous articles on health care fraud published in The American Chiropractor magazine, the most widely published magazine specific to chiropractic medical care, and was selected as a featured speaker regarding health care fraud at the American Chiropractor annual Global convention held in 2006 in Panama. Education and History

Larry obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Arts and Sciences from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 1982, and his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1985. He has practiced law in both Maryland and North Carolina, having first obtained his license to practice in Maryland, where he did so by representing criminal and civil clients in Baltimore, Maryland and surrounding counties, before moving back to North Carolina in 1989 to begin practice in his native state. He is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, North Carolina Advocates for Justice, American Bar Association, United States Federal Eastern and Middle District Courts of North Carolina, Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals for the United States, and the United States Supreme Court.


Larry's professional employment background includes civil and criminal litigation practice in all counties of Maryland, while an associate attorney in Baltimore, Maryland from 1986-88; Special Legal Advisor to Commissioner of Labor, Department of Labor, State of North Carolina from 1988-1989; as well as private civil and criminal litigation practice in Charlotte, Raleigh, and throughout Eastern and all other areas of North Carolina. He is a former partner with the Eastern, North Carolina firm of Mills & Economos, LLP, having formed the Economos Law Firm, PLLC in 2010.

Economos Law Firm, PLLC has offices in both Cary and Greenville, North Carolina, with a law practice that represents a multitude of clients in the eastern counties of North Carolina, through the Raleigh-Durham Triangle area running along the corridor to Charlotte and other areas in the state.

Mr. Economos has represented clients in criminal appeals across North Carolina in Durham, Mecklenburg, Wake, Pitt, Currituck, Dare, Jones, New Hanover, Beaufort, Craven, Martin, Davidson, Guilford, Cabarrus, Johnston, Nash, Wayne, Bertie, Edgecombe, and Orange County. He most recently won on appeal in a felony gun charge, resulting in the felony conviction being reversed and dismissed, in a felony counterfeiting conviction, resulting in the felony conviction being reversed and dismissed, and in reversal of a criminal sentence imposed by a judge that required a client to undergo twenty four hour monitoring after being released from prison.

In civil appeals Mr. Economos has been equally successful, recently prevailing in a federal tobacco buyout dispute involving an erroneous federal government decision that was overturn resulting in his clients being awarded over $250,000.00 in federal buyout monies, winning on appeal in a case of first impression in the United States which established the right of patients to seek damages for negligence for the unauthorized release of medical records, and winning on appeal that resulted in the reversal of an equitable distribution divorce judgment that saved his client more than $80,000.00.

Mr. Economos has been invited to and has argued cases before the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Supreme Court, and the Federal Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia.
